Synopsis:

Flamenco has been present in the Mexican stage since its very inception 200 years ago, and today it is very much alive in Mexico City and all over the country.

Names such as the legendary Carmen Amaya, and her nieces Winy and Karime Amaya have been part of Mexico’s Flamenco scene. We also find local Flamenco stars such as Manolo Vargas, Pilar Rioja and María Elena Anaya. This long held Flamenco tradition has created a whole school of new, fascinating, and talented musicians and dancers. This show is a tribute to that Mexican Flamenco tradition with a cast of amazing young and talented artists.

Regarding the director or directors:

Alfonso Cid, flamenco singer and flute player, was born in Sevilla, Spain. His mother, an amateur singer, and his grandfather, an aficionado of flamenco, were his earliest influences. He also had the opportunity of attending the activities of one the most significant flamenco clubs in Andalusia, the Peña Flamenca Torres- Macarena in Seville. He was awarded two scholarships to attend the intensive summer course at the Cristina Heeren Foundation for Flamenco Art in July 2007 and 2008.

He recorded backing vocals in the song titled “Mi Santa” by popular Latin artist Romeo Santos featuring the great flamenco guitarist Tomatito.

In January 2023 collaborated as a Flamenco singing consultant in Indiana University-Bloomington Jacob School of Music’s production of the opera “Ainadamar-Fountain of Tears” by Osvaldo Golijov.

Alfonso has toured throughout the USA, Latin America, Israel and Europe, and toured Spain, France and Italy in 2017 and 2018 with the jazz/flamenco band New Bojaira by Spanish pianist Jesús Hernández. This band released a new album titled “Zorongo Blu” in 2018.

He released his first CD titled “Flamenco de vuelta e ida” in 2006 with the flamenco fusion project “Gazpacho Andalú”.
