Synopsis
Ricano is the unique expression Afro Puerto Rican and Afro Dominican music, it brings the audience into the amazing sounds that live in each distinct style through fusions with genres like Jazz. The word RICANO was conceived by J. Suazo and is a play/fusion of the words “Puertorriqueño” and “Dominicano,” symbolizing self-discovery and connections to Puerto Rican and Dominican roots. RICANO will showcase the Afro-Caribbean experience to bring that past, present, and future of this cultural heritage to a wide array of audiences.

Regarding the director or directors
Jonathan Suazo is a Puerto Rican Saxophonist / Composer. His work is influenced by artists like Kenny Garrett, Miguel Zenón, David Sánchez and John Coltrane.
He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz & Caribbean Music at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, and his Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance at Berklee College of Music (Global Jazz Institute). He’s been named one of Ten Emerging Jazz Artists to check out in 2023 by The Recording Academy. He’s a 2023 Winter South Arts Jazz Road Artist, a 2023 New Music USA Creator Fund Recipient, and has been taught by renowned musicians like: David Sanchez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Marco Pignataro, John Patitucci, Danilo Pérez, George Garzone and Joe Lovano.
Jonathan has also performed in venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, DR Jazz Fest, Martinique Jazz Fest, Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Fest, SF JAZZ, Elephant Room Austin TX, and many more. He’s collaborated with artists such as: Paoli Mejías, ILé, Miguel Zenón, El Hijo de Borikén, David Sánchez,
Kevin Harris, Rakalam Bob Moses, Christian Nieves, Ricky Rodriguez, Tito Matos, Ricardo Pons, William Cepeda, Obie Bermudez, Hans Glawischnig, Humberto Ramirez, Silverio Perez, Charlie Sepúlveda and many others.
