For this premiere presentation, Alea will be performing original music from her acclaimed album alongside new, never-before-heard songs, all with an emphasis on her well known afro latin folk diversity.
Alea’s band for the evening will include Juancho Herrera (guitar, bass, vocals), Franco Pinna (drums), Berta Moreno (saxophone, clarinet), along with dancers Argelia Arreola and Maricarmen Betancour. “We are a big family,” Alea says, “and we look forward to having your family join ours.”
About the Company / directxr or directxrs:*
With a welcoming sound that embraces cumbia, vallenato, rancheras, afro-colombian beats, jazz and pop, the singer-songwriter Alea brings a powerful performance that links downtown New York to a Colombian cantina. Originally from La Guajira, Alea celebrates Latin America and redefines what “Latin Alternative” can be. Her latest album, Alborotá, was shortlisted among the Best Latin Music of the year by both Rolling Stone and NPR.
