AboutEVENT BORIMIX 2020 Haiti
WHEN Nov 2020
BORIMIX: Puerto Rico Fest is to make Puerto Rican arts accessible to a multi-ethnic and multi-generational audience, and to promote collaboration between Latinx artists.
In its continued expansion, BORIMIX now celebrates Puerto Rican and Latinx artists, through the lens of a Caribbean and Latin American diaspora guest-country and theme. BORIMIX: Puerto Rico Fest 2015 inaugurated the country-centric themes to complement the Boricua anchor. These hermanamientos, have re-defined and further telescoped the festival for the last five years. Since then, BORIMIX has hosted the following countries in order of the years following 2015: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador. We plan on honoring all of the countries in Latin America and in 2020 we want to welcome Haiti.
Curated to highlight and promote contemporary, as well as historic Puerto Rican and Latinx artists working in visual arts, theatre, spoken word, film, and academia (including roundtable or panel discussions), the past several festivals have seen us organize over 25 events and reach more than 15,000 during the month of the festival. We have managed this outreach by convening 30 Latinx cultural organizations to collaborate with BORIMIX. Among us, we have come up with diverse offerings that while addressing important themes and issues for Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latinx diasporas have contributed to the artistic and cultural vibrancy of the citywide community.
